Understanding the CMDB Schema Model

Data Population in the CMDB
The CI Class Manager serves as a centralized location for managing CMDB classes. Accessible via Configuration > CI Class Manager, this tool allows you to:

- Manage Attributes: Change and add new table properties, ensuring your CMDB stays relevant.
- Implement Identification and Reconciliation Rules: These rules help uniquely identify CIs and manage data updates from various discovery sources, maintaining data integrity across the board.
Key Features of CI Class Manager:
- Identification Rules: Ensure CIs are accurately identified, determining whether they are new or existing.
- Reconciliation Rules: Specify which sources can update attributes, maintaining control over data quality.
- Data Precedence Rules: Establish priorities for data updates, preventing lower-priority sources from overriding critical information.

To harness the full potential of your CMDB, regular monitoring and maintenance are essential. Health scorecards at the CI, class, and overall CMDB level provide valuable insights through key performance indicators (KPIs) such as:

- Compliance: Auditing data for adherence to established guidelines and standards.
